Brace for commuter delays: Road work partially closes Queen Street until fall

Commuters on Toronto’s busy Queen Street need to prepare themselves for some major delays starting Monday.
A stretch of Queen between Spadina Avenue and Bathurst Street is being reduced to one lane in either direction for watermain replacement and and reconstruction work.
Crews will conduct work on the north side of Queen first and then move to the south side of the street. One lane of traffic in either direction will remain open to drivers.
Pedestrians will still have access through the area, and businesses will be open.
However, during the construction Queen streetcars will be diverting both ways via Spadina, King Street West and Shaw Street. Shuttle buses will run on Queen between Spadina and Shaw.
The construction is expected to last until Oct. 8.
Upcoming Gardiner closure
The Gardiner Expressway is scheduled to be closed from Carlaw Avenue to Highway 427 this weekend for annual spring maintenance. The lanes are expected to be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday.
Ongoing road closures
Bayview Avenue from River to Queen streets is closed in both directions until May 20 for road repairs.
Gerrard Street, from Yonge to Church streets, will be closed until the end of July for watermain replacement, road resurfacing and bike lane and sidewalk upgrades.
Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard, from York Street to Rees Street, will be reduced to one lane except from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays when two lanes will be open. The closure, which is for Toronto Hydro work, is expected to be completed on July 27.
Richmond Street, from Yonge to Bay streets, is also reduced to two lanes until July 1 for road and sidewalk repairs. One lane will be used for cyclists and pedestrians.
