A 29-year-old man is charged with first-degree murder after a Toronto woman was found dead in her Rexdale apartment earlier this year.
The body of Sylvia Consuelo, 34, was found in an apartment at 121 Kendleton Dr., in the Albion Road and Kipling Avenue area, on Jan. 30.
Police said friends of the victim went to visit her just before 5 a.m., but when they arrived they found she was dead.
In February, police released security video and images of the suspect. At the time, they also said Consuelo was brutally sexually assaulted, beaten and then suffocated.
Consuelo lived by herself and suffered mental health issues. She was also a mother to three young children who were no longer in her care.
Najib Amin, from Toronto, was arrested on Thursday. He appeared in court on Friday.
