Here we grow again: City Council to expand to 47 wards

By News Staff

Toronto City Council will grow from 44 to 47 members.

Council approved a measure which will see three new wards in downtown Toronto and one in North York while the current Ward 18 Davenport will disappear.

The ever expanding population of the city is the reason given for the new boundaries, which could be in place in time for the next municipal election in 2018.

Mayor John Tory advocated leaving things the way they are but many councillors rejected the idea that more members would make the council more inefficient automatically.
