Model Kate Upton goes on Twitter tirade against baseball writers

Hell hath no fury like the fiance of a Cy Young Award winner scorned.

Following the announcement of baseball’s Cy Young Award winners Wednesday afternoon, model Kate Upton unleashed a series of salty tweets in defense of her boyfriend Justin Verlander.

The Detroit Tigers pitcher finished second in American League balloting to Boston’s Rick Porcello. Verlander had more first place votes but Porcello drew more support across the board after being listed on all 30 ballots. Verlander was left off two ballots, which is what likely cost him the award.

That wasn’t sitting well with Upton.

Younger brother Ben Verlander tried to make the statistical case for Justin.

He then called out Tampa Bay beat reporter Bill Chastain as one of two writers who did not vote for his brother

Jason Collette, a writer for Rotowire and ESPN SweetSpot Blog Network, attempted to inject a little post U.S. election humour into the mix.

Detroit Free Press writer Anthony Fenech noted Verlander is the first pitcher to receive the most first-place votes and not win the award.
