A teenager is recovering in hospital after he was shot in the stomach in broad daylight on Monday.
Emergency crews were called to Yorkgate Mall, near Jane Street and Finch Avenue West, just before 4 p.m.
The 17-year-old boy was shot in the parking lot and then ran into the mall.
He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.
Toronto police said the suspect is a black man with a thin build. He was last seen wearing dark jeans and a dark jean jacket. He fled the scene in a red or black car.
Since the shooting took place in broad daylight, at a busy time of day for the mall, police are calling the shooting “alarming.” They said the major cause of concern is stray bullets that could have injured or killed innocent people.
CORRECTION: This is a corrected story. Toronto police originally said the victim was 14 years old.
