GO Train service to Barrie suspended after person fatally struck

By News Staff

GO Train service between Toronto and Barrie has been suspended after a person was struck and killed.

The fatality occurred just before 9 p.m. Saturday between Maple and Rutherford stations.

GO Buses are running between Union Station and East Gwillimbury GO.

Full Barrie line GO Train service is expected to resume Sunday morning.

The accident comes just days after GO Transit officials came under fire for its bold new rail safety campaign.

The campaign, which began in January, features the image of a vehicle parked on the railway tracks as a GO train barrels toward it. The caption below reads ‘Killer View’.

Some people emailed Metrolinx, calling the campaign upsetting.

The provincial transit agency plans to unveil at least two more posters in the series, including one which shows a young boy attempting to cross the tracks as a train is coming towards him.
