Toronto police seeking witnesses after massive recycling plant fire

Toronto police say they want to talk to a group of people who were in the Port Lands area last week and may have witnessed a massive fire at a recycling plant there.
The fire engulfed GFL’s Cherry Street Transfer Station around 1 a.m. on May 25, causing the roof to collapse. There was extensive damage throughout the facility.
Employees were inside the building at the time, but everyone got out safely. Two employees were assessed at the scene and released, and no injuries were reported.
A group had been setting off fireworks earlier in the evening, and police believe they might have seen something that could help with the investigation. Toronto Fire investigators stress they have “conclusively eliminated fireworks as the cause.”
Toronto Fire confirms there is no evidence of foul play so far.
Police earlier issued a news release saying fireworks had landed on the GFL property and two vehicles had been seen fleeing the area.
The fire caused as much as $20 million in damage.
