A Toronto man has been charged after allegedly trying to drown a baby raccoon.
According to the Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC),a neighbour heard crying noises coming from a back yard in the Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue West area late on Thursday night
Toronto police arrived and found a baby raccoon in a trap, submerged in a can of water. The trap was weighed down with rocks.

The TWC said the tiny animal had floated to the top and was struggling to breathe in a tiny air space. It’s believed the animal had been in the trap for hours.
The man was arrested at home and charged with with causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
The baby raccoon was taken to the TWC where medical staff placed it in an incubator so it can warm up and receive oxygen.
“Some people love raccoons and some people don’t, but this kind of action is always unacceptable,” the TWC said in a release. “Raccoons suffer and feel pain just like any other animal, and this baby didn’t deserve this awful attack.”
