Toronto high school could be reborn as Argos training facility: sources

By News Staff

Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School in Etobicoke will close its doors for good at the end of the month, but sources say the site could be given a second life.

The field that was used by the school’s football team — once coached by the late Rob Ford — is being considered for a Toronto Argonauts training facility, CityNews has learned.

“We are examining several alternatives to address our training facility requirements and community development objectives,” Argos spokesman Jamie Dykstra said in an email.

“We are engaged in exploratory discussions with numerous parties in this regard, included among them the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB). However, none of such discussions have advanced beyond the preliminary stages to date.”

The TCDSB didn’t reveal details about the land’s future, but said there were several interested parties.

“We have had discussions with a number of community partners regarding Don Bosco as a community hub,” the board said in a statement.

The board decided to close the school because enrolment has dropped drastically in the last few years.
