Eastbound 409 reopened after several hours due to vehicle fire overnight

By News Staff

The eastbound lanes of Highway 409 have reopened at Martingrove after a vehicle fire in the early hours of Sunday morning closed the highway for several hours.

Toronto Fire responded to a call at around 1:20 a.m. for a transport truck that caught fire travelling east on Highway 409.

The truck was reportedly carrying rubber tubing which emitted a strong odour as it burned and made the flames difficult to extinguish.

No injuries were reported and the driver walked away physically unharmed.

The eastbound 409 was closed for several hours as police investigated and the scene was cleaned.

Crews repaved the on-ramp to Highway 401 after the fire damaged the road.

The roads have since reopened.
