Man arrested after racially-charged confrontation at Toronto’s ferry terminal

By News Staff

The Toronto police arrested a man after a racially-charged confrontation at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal that happened on Monday.

A video that was posted on Facebook shows a man yelling at a Muslim family.

CityNews spoke to the man who received most of the verbal abuse. He said he lives in Toronto and was hosting family from Chicago.

The man didn’t want to be identified but said the trouble started when a man he believed to be inebriated walked up to his brother in an intimidating fashion.

“As soon as he came so close to my brother’s face, I’m like, ‘This is not normal,’ and I said, ‘Hey what are you doing?’” he recalled.

He said the man then began yelling at his family. The video, shot by one of the family members, picks up mid-confrontation.

“It’s my province. What are you guys doing here?,” the man asked. “Where the f**k are you from?”

“You don’t tell me what to do in my province,” he repeatedly screams.

The video has more than 1 million views.

Police charged Lombray Ball, 50, with two counts of assault and one count of threatening death.

They are asking the Ministry of the Attorney General for permission to charge the suspect with hate offences, as is standard procedure in these types of cases, Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said Friday.

The incident “was clearly hate-motivated,” Sidhu said. “Considering recent events in the city, this is something that we take very seriously.”
