By News Staff

A 36-year-old man has died in hospital after a motorcycle crash on Highway 401 in North York.

Police say the motorcyclist was traveling west on the highway near the Bayview transfer just before 11 p.m. on Thursday.

Witnesses told police three motorcycles were travelling together at a high rate of speed when the crash happened.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the motorcycle collided with a car in a construction zone.

“The one motorcyclist went into the third lane, which was blocked by a blocker truck, and collided with a another vehicle that was waiting in queue to merge into traffic,” Schmidt explained.

The motorcyclist was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later died.

No other injuries were reported.
