Single vehicle crash sends 3 to hospital including 13-year-old driver

A 14-year-old is in critical condition following a single vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Oakville.
Halton Regional Police say an SUV that was being driven by a 13-year-old was travelling southbound on Eighth Line just before 5 a.m. when it lost control, crossed over the North Service Road and smashed through a chain-link fence fence that separates the road from the highway. The vehicle then struck the concrete median that separates the east and westbound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth Way.
A 14-year-old was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre with critical injuries while another 16-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries but is listed in stable condition.
The 13-year-old driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Det.-Const. Oliver Caves says the 13-year-old’s parents own the vehicle, but police are still determining the relationship between him and the passengers.
Caves also says no charges have been laid against the driver at this time and they’re still investigating how and why the teens took the car for a ride.
Speed and inexperience are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnesses the crash to contact them.
