Toronto police are investigating after a brazen daylight shootout on Jane Street near Highway 400 on Tuesday morning.

Police say two groups of males got into an altercation near a convenience store at around 11:15 a.m.

They began firing at each other before fleeing in two vehicles. One of the vehicles was then involved in a collision on Jane Street and the suspects fled on foot.

“It was two groups of males at the … plaza. At some point they became involved in some kind of dispute and that dispute escalated into where both groups pulled out firearms and began shooting at each other,” explained Const. David Hopkinson.

Hopkinson says there are no reported injuries.

Police say a firearm and shell casings were recovered at the scene.

Five suspects remain at large and police say they are armed and dangerous. Police sources told 680 NEWS investigators have identified one suspect in the case.

Witnesses were rattled by the sudden violence.

“The first three shots I thought they were like firecrackers or whatever but it just kept going bang, bang, bang, bang,” one man told 680 NEWS. “And (then I realized) those are gunshots.”
