Fire at TCHC building possibly suspicious, no serious injuries reported

By News Staff

A fire that broke out at a TCHC building on Tuesday afternoon could be suspicious, Toronto Fire tells CityNews.

Police and fire crews responded to a call at a building on Gilder Drive near Eglinton and Midland avenues shortly before noon.

A blaze in a fourth floor unit led to heavy smoke, but was quickly knocked down. No serious injuries were reported but one person was taken to hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

A cat was also rescued from the apartment.

The unit was heavily damaged and crews opened roof hatches to vent out the smoke.

It is unclear what caused the fire. An investigation is ongoing.
