1 injured in Weston shooting becomes 16th gunshot victim of the weekend

By News Staff

A victim injured in a shooting in Weston has become the 16th person to be shot over the long weekend.

Police responded to reports of multiple gunshots at Scarlett Road and Braeburn Avenue just before 10 p.m. Monday.

The victim was found suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Several people were seen running from the area and police say two vehicles were spotted fleeing the scene. There’s no word of any suspect information at this time.

This was the 13th shooting incident reported in Toronto over the weekend, the fourth on Monday alone, with 16 people being sent to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders addressed the rash of gun violence the city has seen over the August long weekend earlier on Monday, calling it an anomaly.

Mayor John Tory called the recent rash of violence “absolutely unacceptable” and urged anyone with information to come forward.
