Truck driver charged in fatal, multi-vehicle crash on QEW

A 34-year-old truck driver from Mississauga has been charged in connection with a fatal, multi-vehicle crash on the QEW in Oakville last month.

The crash, which happened around 10:45 p.m. Aug. 22, involved eight vehicles including a tractor-trailer and shut down the section of highway for 13 hours.

The collision caused a tractor-trailer to catch fire.

Elena Kulikova, 34, of Niagara Falls, was found deceased inside a car that had been pinned against a concrete barrier by the tractor-trailer. The vehicle had also caught on fire.

Seven other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

On Monday, police said Muhammad Hasnai Raza, who had been driving the tractor-trailer, had been arrested.

Raza has been charged with causing death by criminal negligence and dangerous operation causing death.
