Brampton man facing assault, kidnapping charges in Scarborough abduction

A 26-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple charges in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a mother and her 18-month-old toddler on Thursday.

Police say a man was seen yelling at a woman and a small child in the area of Silver Star Boulevard and Midland Avenue near Finch Avenue East around 7:30 a.m. He then allegedly forced them into a car and drove off.

Police were in the process of drafting an Amber Alert when the woman and child were located in Peel Region just before 10 a.m.

Police said at the time that the man and woman were known to each other.

Nathan Burke is facing 14 charges including five counts of assault, two counts of kidnapping and threatening death.
