Durham regional police have identified the cyclist who was killed in a collision with a delivery truck in Whitby on Tuesday.
Police say the deceased cyclist is Geoffrey Mitchell, 53, of Whitby.
It happened just after 11 a.m. on Baldwin Street and Canary Crescent.
“The 53-year-old male cyclist was travelling northbound on Baldwin Street in the northbound lane, when he was struck by a FedEx ground delivery truck,” police said in a release.
“The FedEx ground delivery truck was westbound on Canary Crescent, attempting to make a left turn to go southbound on Baldwin Street, when it struck the cyclist.”
Mitchell was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say the driver of the delivery truck remained on scene, tried to help the cyclist, and cooperated with police in their investigation.
