SIU investigating after cyclist killed in crash in King City

The province’s Special Investigation’s Unit (SIU) is investigating after a vehicle struck a cyclist in King City.
York regional police were called to Keele Street north of Cavell Avenue near 16th Sideroad around 7 a.m. on Friday for a vehicle rollover.
Police say an officer was in the area conducting speed enforcement when a vehicle began approaching at a high rate of speed.
The police officer attempted to pull the driver over, however, the vehicle was then involved in a collision.
At some point during the crash, the vehicle struck a cyclist. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Their age and identity have not yet been released.
The driver has been taken into custody.
“While searching the area shortly after 9 a.m., officers located a man believed to be the driver of the vehicle walking on 15th Sideroad, which is two kilometres south of this location,” York police Sgt. Andy Pattenden said.
SIU and York police are now conducting parallel investigations.
Police are asking for help in identifying the male cyclist who was killed.
He’s described as a white male with a medium building in his 40s to 50s. He was wearing cyclist clothing with black, grey white and some green, black shoes, and a navy blue helmet.
His bike was a Specialized Tarmac. A picture of the bike has been released.
