Driver arrested after crashing into North York store, barricading himself in building

Police say a man is in custody after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into a storefront in North York before fleeing and barricading himself inside a building on Tuesday.

It happened at Yorkwoods Plaza in the Jane and Finch streets area just before 11 a.m.

Police say they stopped the vehicle after it crashed, but the driver fled on foot into a nearby apartment building.

The suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. There’s no word yet on charges.

A witness tells 680 NEWS that the vehicle struck a pedestrian before it hit the storefront, leaving him with an injured leg.
