Ontario reports 1,489 new cases of COVID-19, 22 deaths Sunday

Ontario reported 1,489 new cases of COVID-19 today, an increase from the 1,388 cases reported on Saturday.
An additional 22 people have died, bringing the total number of deaths due to the virus to 6,505.
Most of the new cases are in Toronto (517), followed by Peel Region (261) and York Region (121).
The government says 51,658 tests have been completed since the last daily update and the number of resolved cases stands at 256,903.
Around 926 people are hospitalized with the virus, with 335 people in intensive care and 233 of those patients on a ventilator.
The province said 379,184 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of yesterday.
Province to expand emergency child care
The province also announced today it would expand emergency child care to more frontline workers the government prepares to unveil plans for gradually reopening Ontario’s economy.
The free child-care now available to health-care, education and postal workers will be extended to some construction workers and transit workers in Toronto, York Region and Peel beginning this Tuesday.
