Twitter testing ‘Undo button’ as edit button remains elusive

By Richard Southern

Twitter is testing an ‘undo send’ feature, 680 NEWS has confirmed.

It will allow users to redact their tweets moments after hitting the send button but it’s not the edit button many Twitter users have been clamouring for.

Asked if an edit button will ever arrive, Paul Burns, managing director of Twitter Canada, told 680NEWS that “perfection is overrated.”

“I think this is philosophically what we believe, there is a beauty in imperfection. We’re all imperfect people, we all tweet a conversation that’s not going to be this perfect pristine view of the world,” Burns said.

Asked if he personally thinks the service needs an edit button, Burns said, “I don’t think we do, no. Twitter is a public conversation and errors are made.”

Burns goes on to admit, however, he understands “why people would want one.”

When it comes to the undo button, there’s currently no indication of when the feature may be widely accessible by the public.

In early 2020, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey gave perhaps the most precise answer to the question of whether there will ever be an edit button.

When prompted on the matter, Dorsey simply said, “the answer is ‘no.'”

Sorry, imperfect tweeters.
