Toronto police say an early morning fire that damaged a cell phone tower in Scarborough is now being investigated as arson.
Fire crews were called to the area of Midland Avenue and the 401 around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
680 traffic reporter Jordan Kerr described the scene in Chopper 680:

“We have gotten information from the fire marshal that this is an arson,” Const. Alex Li said late Wednesday afternoon. “They have information to believe that this was deliberately set.”
Police are asking for anyone who may have been travelling through the area near the time of the fire to contact them with any information or dashcam video.
As a result of the damage sustained to the tower by the fire a crane has been called in to support the structure until it can be safely removed.
Police say Midland Avenue will remain closed overnight from Progress Avenue to Sheppard Avenue East as repairs are made and the investigation continues.
