York Region accepting vaccine appointments for those 45+ living in 5 high-priority areas

York Region is taking another step in ensuring a larger majority of its residents get vaccinated.

The public health unit announced Tuesday that it’s “advancing” those eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations to now include residents aged 45 to 59 (born in 1962 to 1976) who live in five identified high-priority communities.

Vaccine appointments will be accepted as of Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. through york.ca/COVID19Vaccine or by calling “Access York” at 1-877-464-9675.

The province has also released a list of postal codes where vaccines will be available to anyone 50 and older in COVID-19 hotspots and many are in the GTA, including some in York Region outside of the five 45 and older hotspots.

“Expanding York Region’s vaccine program into these high priority communities through Phase 2 of the provincial vaccine plan will help control spread, reduce illness and protect against variants of concern,” York Region said.

Roughly 8,000 appointments will be available at two dedicated clinics and York Region says eligible residents are encouraged to book as soon as possible.

Additional bookings will be made available as vaccine supply increases.

York Region has identified five initial high priority communities including four in Vaughan and one in the Markham at the following postal codes:

  • L4L
  • L6A
  • L4K
  • L4J
  • L3S

“These five initial communities are identified in alignment with provincial guidance and by using York Region data to consider factors, such as the prevalence of variant cases, COVID-19 incidence rates, hospitalizations, deaths, and an internal equity framework based on the Ontario Marginalization Index,” York Region added.

Appointments will be available from April 8 to Monday, April 12, and residents aged 45 to 59 will be able to attend Maple Community Centre and Aaniin Community Centre for their shots.

Additional appointments will also be opening on Wednesday for all other eligible priority groups, including residents age 65-and-up (born 1956 or earlier), highest, very high, and high priority health care workers, Indigenous adults, faith leaders, and adult recipients of chronic home care.

The locations include:

  • Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan
  • Georgina Ice Palace in Georgina
  • Richmond Green in Richmond Hill
  • Trisan Centre in the Township of King

Walk-in appointments are not available.

York Region is among other municipalities such as Peel and Halton that have been vaccinating residents 65-and-over.
