Man, 2 boys arrested after stabbing during large gathering at Ashbridge’s Bay Park

By News Staff

Police say a man and two boys have been arrested after another boy was stabbed during a large gathering at Ashbridge’s Bay Park on Saturday night.

Police were called to the east end park just after 9 p.m. and were greeted by what they said was a “very large crowd gathered on the beach.”

Additional officers along with the mounted unit were called in to try and disperse the crowd, which police say numbered well into the thousands.

They saw people firing Roman candles at other people and a fight broke out as a result. Police say during the fight, a man pulled out an “edged weapon” and stabbed a 16-year-old boy several times.

He was reportedly was found on the beach unconscious with stab wounds and transported to hospital in serious, but non-life threatening condition.

The suspect fled the scene but police were able to capture him and the weapon was found.

Livingston Bromwell, 24, of St. Catharines, is facing one count of attempted murder.

Two 16-year-old boys from Toronto were also taken into custody and have each been charged with assault with a weapon.

While COVID-19 restrictions have been loosened in Ontario this weekend as part of the Step 1 reopening plan, outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 people.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story said the victim was a 20-year-old man. It has now been changed to reflect the last information from police.
