Driver charged after man struck and killed at Harbour and York

A 46-year-old man is facing charges after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the city’s downtown core on Thursday.

Toronto police said a man was in the intersection of Harbour and York streets around 3:30 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle that was heading east on Harbour. Police said the driver fled the scene.

Paramedics said the man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is not yet known.

Police said the suspect vehicle was located on Richardson Street, near Lower Jarvis Street and the Queens Quay, but that they were looking for the driver. The driver was later located and arrested.

Sebastian Sapeta, from Toronto, has been charged with Impaired Operation – Cause Death and Fail to Stop at Accident – Cause Death. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
