Anger and agreement after feds say workers fired over vax refusal may not get EI benefits

Should workers who are fired for refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19 still receive employment insurance benefits?
That debate has been raging since the federal government announced an update Friday, saying employees who find themselves in that predicament may not be eligible for government assistance.
According to the updated policy, workers could be found ineligible because they would have been terminated over a condition of employment that hasn’t been met.
That wouldn’t apply to those who receive valid medical exemptions.
Is it fair?

I think this is heavy handed personally. I’m all for vaccinations but there are those individuals that stand by their personal beliefs. It’s enough that it’s a prerequisite for many jobs. I don’t think people should be penalized further.

Get vaccinated. Those who personally don’t believe in vaccination won’t like my opinion. But my personal beliefs aren’t putting the lives of others at risk. And our Federal Government can’t keep funding personal beliefs. The economy, health care system and lives are all at risk.
