Veteran York regional police officer charged with theft

A York Regional Police officer is accused of stealing property he was supposed to be returning to its owner.

Police say the officer responded to a call for found property on November 11, 2021.

“The officer attended and picked up the property to return to the owner, however, the owner reported that only a portion was returned,” police said in a release.

The York Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau launched an investigation into the allegations and have now announced charges against David Runge, 42, of Lindsay.

Runge, who has been an officer with York police since 2004, is facing charges of theft under $5,000, possession of Stolen property and breach of trust.
