Toronto Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at three Toronto-area schools.
Late Friday afternoon, the public health unit said it had identified two or more COVID-19 cases within Thorncliffe Park Public School in East York, George R. Gauld Junior School and Josyf Cardinal Slipyj Catholic School, both in Etobicoke.
“We’re carefully investigating & following our process of working w/our school community to notify close contacts & ask them to stay home, monitor for symptoms & get tested,” public health officials said in a series of tweets.
There was no indication from Public Health that any of the schools were being closed to in-person learning as a result of the outbreak.
At the end of March, the Toronto District School Board temporarily closed Thorncliffe Park after seven active cases among students were reported. The school was also previously shut down in December 2020 due to an outbreak that involved 31 students and staff.
According to the TDSB, a total of 378 active cases of COVID-19 have been reported in 278 of its schools while the Toronto Catholic District School Board is reporting a total of 53 active cases in 38 of its schools.
