Environment Canada is warning of heavy rain and strong winds for much of southern Ontario this weekend.
The national weather service has issued rainfall and wind warnings for Toronto and the GTHA and most southwestern Ontario as rain, heavy at times, is forecast to starting falling Friday night with between 20 to 40 mm falling through Saturday afternoon.
“A strengthening low pressure system is forecast to track northeast across the Great Lakes on Saturday, bringing heavy rain,” Environment Canada said in a statement Friday afternoon. “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”

Adding to the heavy rain is a wind warning, as strong southwesterly gusts of up to 90 km/h are expected Saturday afternoon into the evening.
Gusts between 90 and 110 km/h are possible near the shores of Lake Erie and Ontario in the Niagara region.
“Some damage to trees and local power outages will be possible due to these strong winds,” says Environment Canada. “Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur.”
By the evening the winds are expected to shift to the northwest with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h in some areas, particularly along the shores of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
Biggest threat for the GTA with the incoming storm will be potentially damaging winds, strongest along the lakeshores. *There is a risk of power outages Saturday afternoon so charge up devices and find the flashlight! pic.twitter.com/HqXxib9ky3
