City of Toronto adds 6,000-plus COVID vaccine appointments for Dec. 25-27

The City of Toronto added more than 6,000 COVID-19 vaccination appointments to the Ontario booking portal on Tuesday, but it appears they were all booked up within minutes.

Starting at 8 a.m., around 6,662 new vaccine appointments were made available for clinics to be held between Christmas Day and Dec. 27.

However, shortly after the appointments were added, some social media users noted online that they were not able to get a time slot on either of those three days.

“All [appointments] gone in 30 seconds. The demand is way [too] high,” one person tweeted.

“Not enough appointments were released. All appointments were booked before 8:10 a.m., many left without an option until February,” another wrote.

Meanwhile, several City-run clinics will be open Dec. 25-27, offering first, second and third doses to eligible residents. Below is a full list (clinics are by appointment only, booked via the provincial booking portal or by calling 1‑833‑943‑3900):

“Team Toronto is working at wartime speed to help people get their third COVID-19 vaccine dose and to add new vaccine appointments,” Mayor John Tory said in a release.

“Thank you to everyone on Team Toronto who are working through the holidays to make sure our progress on delivering booster doses continues.”

City officials said as of Monday, more than 82,850 children have received their first dose, and around 39 per cent of them are those aged 5-11.

As of Monday, Ontarians aged 18 and over were eligible to take their third dose of the vaccine if they received their second dose at least three months (84 days) ago. However, some encountered issues while trying to book an appointment.

City officials said so far, nearly 457,000 Torontonians have received their third dose.
