Peel Regional Police have ruled a double-homicide in Brampton as a domestic incident.
Investigators responded to a 9-1-1 call for a wellness check at a residence near Redcastle and Kershaw streets, in the area of Bovaird and Creditview, shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday.
Officers located a male and a female with gunshot wounds at the home. They were both pronounced dead on scene.
In an update, investigators with Peel Police said both victims were 23 years old and in a relationship. The man died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators are treating it as an isolated incident and a case of domestic violence. They said they were not looking for any additional suspects.
“Our service offers our sincere condolences to all those affected by this tragedy. It is a heartbreaking demonstration of the realities of gender-based violence,” said Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich.
“It reinforces the need for our community to continue collective efforts towards ending violence against women.”
The investigation is ongoing.
