Toronto police have charged a 14-year-old boy with aggravated assault and are seeking two other suspects after a TTC bus driver was stabbed on Wednesday.

It happened just before 1 p.m. in the Keele Street and Gulliver Road area.

In a release, police said a group of young men boarded the bus and became involved in an argument with the driver, reportedly over a fare dispute.

Police say the group attacked the driver, who was stabbed during the altercation.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but he’s expected to make a full recovery.

The teen suspect made a court appearance on Thursday morning via video link.

Police are seeking two other suspects in the case, both described as Black males between the ages of 15 and 17.

The first suspect is five foot six with a thin build. He was wearing dark clothing. The second is around five foot seven with a medium build. Police say he was wearing a dark blue winter jacket.

On Wednesday, police told CityNews the victim was stabbed in the torso and the shoulder while he was standing on the sidewalk. It’s not yet clear why he had exited the bus.

Jim Ross, the chief operating officer at the TTC, called the stabbing “troubling.”

“It’s really upsetting actually that somebody can just be in the course of operating a bus up and down the street in Toronto and this is the outcome,” he said.

The incident came a week after another TTC employee was stabbed onboard a Line 2 subway train.

Officers said they were called to Dupont station on the morning of Feb. 9 after the 46-year-old victim was stabbed twice in the back after he was involved in some sort of altercation.

A 30-year-old man was charged with multiple offences in connection with the incident.
