European mobility company FlixBus is moving ahead with its entry into the Canadian market by launching services in Ontario in April.

Starting on April 7, the company announced it will offer an express bus trip each way between downtown Toronto (near York Street and Queens Quay West) and downtown Ottawa (ByWard Market) on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

It will also operate a daily route to Niagara Falls (near the Niagara Falls Convention Centre) from downtown Toronto, stopping at St. Catharines (near the St. Catharines downtown bus terminal).

A third daily local route will run between Waterloo and downtown Toronto with stops in downtown Kitchener, Guelph and Mississauga.

Up until April 6, many tickets will be available at a promotional fare of $4.99. A search of the company’s website also showed one-way fares later in April between Toronto and Ottawa at $42.99 and $47.99.

According to a statement, FlixBus buses will be initially operated by Gallexy Tours and will have Wi-Fi and power outlets available at every seat.

The company billed itself as one that focuses on “digitalization” and “route intelligence” while also offering carbon-neutral ticket options.

The launch of FlixBus in Ontario and Canada will come several months after Greyhound Canada announced it was cutting all of its routes and ending operations. Also, the company cited the Ontario government’s move in 2021 to deregulate interregional bus services.

FlixBus also operates in the European Union, the United States and Brazil.
