Police dispose of package containing grenade in Waterloo

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after they were called to dispose of a grenade found on Wednesday night.

At 9:55 p.m., police said they responded to reports of an explosive device in a package near The Boardwalk and University Avenue West.

Upon arrival, members of the Explosive Disposal Team confirmed the device was a grenade. The package was removed and the grenade was safely disposed of, police said.

It is unclear how the grenade arrived on location and if it was live.
