One person is dead and two others are injured after an early morning shooting in the tourist area of Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls.
Niagara police were called to the Great Canadian Midway just after 12:30 a.m. on Friday following reports of multiple gunshots.
Police found three males suffering from gunshot wounds and one victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two others were initially taken to a local hospital but were later airlifted to a trauma centre out of town for treatment. Both are listed in stable condition.
Police say all three victims are under the age of 18 but wouldn’t elaborate as to the nature of the relationship between the three.
Police said a blue Ford F-150 Super Crew four-door pick-up truck was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. It had dark tinted windows, a tri-fold tonneau cover, and a moonroof. The vehicle has visible damage and is missing a door handle and the front licence plate.
The vehicle was last seen travelling west on Lundy’s Lane toward the area of Montrose Road and Highway 420 in Niagara Falls.
Staff Sergeant Steve Magistrale tells CityNews that while they continue to piece together the circumstances that led up to the shooting, there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
“We’re not exactly sure at this point how many suspects are involved or how this interaction between these groups of people – whether it’s one large group or multiple groups – we’re not sure how this interaction escalated to the point where a gun was fired,” he said.
Police are asking anyone with information or who may have dash-cam footage to contact them.
