Man charged after woman targeted in armed carjacking in Toronto

By Lucas Casaletto

A 26-year-old man is facing charges, and another suspect is being sought after an alleged violent armed carjacking in Toronto’s Rexdale neighbourhood.

Toronto police say the incident happened on June 30 in the Elmhurst Drive and Islington Avenue area. Investigators say it’s alleged that after a 39-year-old woman parked her vehicle in a parking lot and opened her vehicle door, two armed men approached her and demanded that she get out. She then honked her horn, and one of the suspects kicked her in the leg, police said.

The two men drove away from the area in a getaway car.

Police identified one of the men allegedly responsible and, on July 12, arrested a 26-year-old man from Toronto. He faces several charges, including robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent.

During a search warrant, officers recovered clothing worn during the robbery and some ammunition.

He appeared in court on Wednesday.

One male suspect, said to be 18 years old, is still wanted by police.
