A 25-year-old man is wanted by police after allegedly stealing an elderly woman’s SUV in Newmarket with her small dog inside the vehicle.
York Regional Police say the incident happened around 7 p.m. on August 29 outside a veterinary clinic in the Eagle Street West and Davis Drive area.
It’s alleged that a 78-year-old woman had her 2015 silver Nissan Rogue stolen from the parking lot. She told police that the male suspect approached her, pushed her to the ground and took her car keys.
He fled the area in the stolen car with her Shih-poo dog, Bobby, in the front seat.
The woman sustained minor physical injuries.
One day later, on August 30, police said the vehicle was returned to a neighbour’s driveway with Bobby the dog inside, unharmed.
Officers have issued an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Gurpreet Singh of Brampton on a robbery charge.
Singh is described as 20 to 25 years old, Middle Eastern, with a thin build, dark hair and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and possibly black pants.
