Man in 40s dead after hit-and-run in downtown Toronto

Police are searching for a car after a pedestrian was killed in a chain reaction crash in downtown Toronto on Monday morning.

Toronto police were called to Yonge Street and College Street around 4:20 a.m for reports of a collision.

Upon arrival, they located a man lying in the intersection with injuries.

Police tell CityNews the victim, a man in his 40s, had been lying in the roadway before the crash occurred. A dark coloured car was travelling southbound on Yonge Street and struck the man as he was lying in the street.

The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

The car immediately fled the area. Police are now searching for a dark coloured four-door Honda Civic.

Yonge Street was closed between College and Gerrard for the investigation but the road has since reopened.
