A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged in the shooting death of a fellow teenager in Scarborough last month.

Toronto police say 17-year-old Zaybion Lawrence of Toronto died in hospital after a shooting in the Gilder Drive and Eglinton Avenue East area around 3:45 p.m. on September 21, 2022.

Five teens were seen running from the area, police said, but it wasn’t made clear if they were suspects or were running after hearing shots fired.

Lawrence died in hospital just before 4:30 p.m. from “multiple gunshot wounds.”

On Wednesday, police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the homicide. The youth has been charged with first-degree murder.

He was not identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The 16-year-old appeared in court on Wednesday.
