Truck crashes into road crew on QEW leaving truck driver, worker with serious injuries
A stretch of the Toronto-bound QEW has remained shut down for nearly 10 hours after a truck slammed into a maintenance in the early morning hours on Wednesday.
Police responded to a crash near Ontario Street in Beamsville, west of St. Catharine, around 12:30 a.m.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a transport truck drove into the back of a sign vehicle that was protecting workers who were repairing potholes on the highway. The sign vehicle was spun into the workers who were standing outside.

The 22-year-old truck driver from Kitchener was taken to hospital with life-threatening injures. A 39-year-old female worker from Oakville was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the truck was driving in the middle lane of the three-lane highway when it crashed into the maintenance vehicle. The left and middle lanes were being blocked to allow the crews to work.

The Toronto-bound lanes of the highway remain closed from Victoria Avenue to Ontario Street. The closure is expected to last through the morning.
The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to contact them.
