The viral “French Toast Guy,” who caught the attention of many for dining while aboard the TTC in Toronto, has been identified — and it was a marketing ploy all along.
The fast-food chain Wendy’s confirmed it was behind the hilarity, noting that it aimed to promote Wendy’s Homestyle French Toast Sticks launch.
Spokesperson Marcy McMillan says it’s all about taking inspiration from “French Toast Guy” to slow down and enjoy the sweeter moments of the morning routine.
“Knowing Canadians aren’t ready to roll out a full restaurant set up during their morning commute, Wendy’s launched the new Homestyle French Toast Sticks, perfect for on-the-go. We toast Wendy’s ‘French Toast Guy’ in helping us celebrate a breakfast worth waking up for.”

“French Toast Guy” made headlines recently after several transit riders were left stunned to see a man pull up with a table and start eating breakfast on the subway. It led to many documenting the awkward encounter on social media and quickly took off on TikTok.
“Someone really likes french toast,” TikTok user impishfondue captioned in a video of the famous man five days ago.
“Why is there a person making french toast on a sidewalk in Toronto?” Menna Ahmed wrote in her video of the man, this time caught dining on the side of the street.
