Body of woman found in Durham Region still not identified after over 15 years

By Madison Fitzpatrick

On this week’s episode of the “Tracking a Killer: The Cold Case Files” podcast, CityNews reporters Fil Martino and Madison Fitzpatrick take a look at the mystery surrounding a victim only known as Jane Doe.

In the fall of 2006, the remains of a woman were found in a field in Bowmanville, Ontario. They had been there for up to 10 years and estimate the victims age to be around 16-24 years old. Police have not been able to identify her or what happened to her.

Investigators continue to search for clues that could uncover her identity. Inspector Mitch Martin admits its aggravating not being able to identify Jane Doe. “It lives in the investigators hearts when we cant figure out who somebody is. We want to identify this lady and get her back to her home. We would love to get her back to where she belongs.”

Retired Durham Regional Police Inspector Chuck Nash previously worked on this case and said he hasn’t forgotten about Jane Doe.

“You never forget these cases, ever. It still baffles me to this day. I’m very interested in returning this individual to their loved ones,” said Inspector Nash. “Nobody deserves to end up in a field such as this individual did. They deserve to be reunited. If it was foul play, then those persons need to be brought to justice. And the odds of that happening, as the years go on, become a lot slimmer.”

Anyone with information about the identification of this female is asked to contact Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
