All-female broadcast crew to call Raptors 905 game for the first time

Sid is joined by sports and music journalist Lindsay Dunn to discuss tonight’s Raptors broadcast.

The Raptors 905 will be making history Wednesday night when for the first time, the game will be called by an-all female broadcast team and referee crew.

It’s a part of the G-league’s team second annual International Women’s Night that will honour local women for their accomplishments and contributions to the community.

The broadcast crew will consist of former WNBA player and coach Ebony Hoffman, former team Canada senior women’s national player Miah-Marie Langlois, who will be calling the game, and CityNews’s Lindsay Dunn who will be reporting from the sidelines.

Dunn said being a part of the broadcast crew is a dream come true. “I’m a little nervous because I moved here nine years ago from Saskatchewan [and] all I ever wanted to do was cover sports, specifically WNBA, G League and NBA. And tonight, I’m living my dream and I’m get to do it alongside people that I’ve interviewed and I’m over the moon right now.

The jersey players from the 905 will be wearing has also been designed by a female artist.

“We are thrilled to host International Women’s Night once again to honour the many talented and hard-working women in our community,” said Tammy Sutton-Brown, Raptors 905 Associate Basketball and Franchise Operations, in a release. “Our goal is to create a memorable experience by highlighting these women for their contributions to the game of basketball and beyond.”

WNBA Napheesa Collier will also be a guest at tonight’s show to share more about the first WNBA Canada set to happen on May 13.

It comes on the same day tickets were released for the first WNBA game played in Canada. Tickets were selling quickly after becoming available at 10 a.m. Wednesday for the game between the Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx at the Scotiabank Arena.

Raptors 905 will host the Delaware Blue Coats at 7:30 pm which will be broadcasted live on NBA TV Canada and ESPN+.
