Warning issued after 4 fatal drug overdoses over weekend in Toronto

Toronto police are reminding people that if they are taking drugs, including fentanyl, to use extreme caution and do not take them alone.
Police and paramedics are warning of an increase in drug-related deaths, with four fatal overdoses reported on Saturday in the downtown core.
All overdoses and deaths are suspected to be linked to the use of fentanyl being distributed in the city.
If anyone suffers serious illness after consuming a narcotic, they should attend a hospital emergency room, call 9-1-1, or go to a walk-in clinic immediately for treatment.
Toronto police offer the following suggestions for people using drugs:
- Use extreme caution and try not to use alone, use the buddy system with someone who you trust.
- Have a drug use safety plan and keep naloxone on-hand. Kits are available at Toronto Public Health, The Works, and through many partner organizations. Free naloxone kits are also available at some pharmacies. Visit www.ontario.ca/page/getnaloxone-kits-free or call 1-800-565-8603.
