York Regional Police have arrested five people following a violent incident last month in Vaughan that involved a kidnapping, shooting and assault.
Officers were called to the Islington Avenue and Steeles Avenue West area just before 1 a.m. on April 12, 2023, for reports of a shooting.
Police located three men, two with gunshot wounds and one who had been physically assaulted. The three victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that a dispute involving family members led to four suspects kidnapping a male victim. Police said a fifth suspect attempted to free the victim, which led to the early-morning shooting.
Four people, including an unidentified 17-year-old suspect, were charged with kidnapping. Police identified three suspects as 19-year-old Yazan Shriki of London, Ont., 23-year-old Mohamad Ali Aluadamani of Mississauga and 20-year-old Ahmad Almouadamani of Oshawa, Ont.
Investigators said 21-year-old Umair Aziz of Toronto was arrested and faces several charges, including two counts of attempted murder with a firearm, two counts of discharging a firearm with intent, and possession of a loaded/prohibited or restricted firearm, among other offences.
Police believe this was a targeted incident and said there is no threat to public safety.
