Man arrested in unprovoked chokehold on TTC bus in Scarborough

Toronto police have arrested and charged a man behind a recent violent attack on a TTC bus in Scarborough.

Police responded to a call for an assault in the Kennedy Road and Sheppard Avenue East area just after 7:30 a.m. on Friday, June 2.

It’s alleged that the victim was on board an eastbound TTC bus standing by the front doors when a man, who had been sitting by the back exit, approached him.

Unprovoked, police said the suspect put the victim in a chokehold as the bus stopped at Kennedy Road. The suspect then fled the bus on foot, south on Kennedy Road.

On Monday, police arrested 45-year-old Prince Powell of Toronto. He’s facing several charges, including assault or choking, aggravated assault and three counts of failing to comply with probation.

Powell is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
