Two suspects are under arrest after allegedly robbing an LCBO and then trying to steal a transport truck in Durham Region earlier this week.

Police responded to reports of a retail robbery in the area King Street East and Townline Road in Courtice on Tuesday evening.

It is alleged that two suspects fled an LCBO in a pickup truck with a large number of stolen items. Shortly after, the suspects struck another vehicle on Highway 2 in Bowmanville, about nine kilometres east of the LCBO, and the pickup truck sustained significant damage.

Minor injuries were reported as a result of the collision. The suspects fled the crash scene.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and began a pursuit westbound on Highway 401. The ground pursuit was called off when Durham police helicopter Air1 was able to locate and track the vehicle.

The chopper tracked the suspects as they exited the highway in Whitby and drove south into a gated compound near South Blair Street and Water Street. The suspects then attempted to carjack a tractor-trailer. Officers arrived at the compound and were able to take the suspects into custody before they could escape in the truck.

Footage shows the pickup truck travelling at high speeds on the 401 and then making its way through Whitby city streets. Police on the ground can be seen surrounding the suspects as they attempt to steal the tractor-trailer.
