Girl, 4, found safe after missing for several days in Scarborough

Toronto police have safely located a four-year-old child who had been missing since Thursday, June 22.

Police first reported the child missing on Tuesday despite the girl not being seen since 10 a.m. in the Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East area on June 22.

She was located in good health around 7:30 p.m. tonight, a police spokesperson confirmed.

Duty Insp. Peter Wehby said investigators were called to a sudden death in the area on Monday. When officers arrived on the scene, they determined that the deceased male had a four-year-old child in his custody, and the youth was not present in the apartment when police arrived.

“It is a good news story tonight that all is well with her,” Duty Insp. Wehby said on Tuesday night, noting that the family has asked for privacy at this time.

Duty Insp. Wehby shared that the male victim was not feeling well before his death, and he had left his daughter with a “known caregiver of the family.”

Toronto police did not issue a province-wide Amber Alert as the child was not abducted.

Additional details of the sudden death investigation were not provided by authorities.
